Our look at STEAM

To the Editor:

As parents of two kindergartners at the Chilmark School, we didn’t know what to expect when attending the school’s STEAM night on Wednesday, March 15. After an informative and inspirational presentation by the staff, and hands-on challenges attempted in small groups (for example, building a 24-inch-tall pedestal able to hold a stuffed animal for 10 seconds using 100 index cards and 12 inches of tape), these two moms left feeling grateful for the Chilmark School’s integration of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) and the program’s process (investigate, discover, connect, create, reflect) into every Chilmark School classroom.

Thank you to the Chilmark School teachers and staff for not only making STEAM lessons a daily occurrence, but allowing us adults a glimpse into the exciting projects that are helping our children become 21st century learners.
