Nelson Sigelman, Times former editor, wins outdoor writer awards

Nelson Sigelman, the former editor of the Martha’s Vineyard Times and for decades its fishing and outdoor columnist, won two awards in the 2016 New England Outdoor Writers Association annual writing contest. The awards were announced on April 8.

Mr. Sigelman’s story about the harmful effects of impoundments along the Mill Brook, “Mill Brook summer data points to deadly temperature spikes,” published Oct. 12, 2016, in The MV Times won first place in the category for the best newspaper article. His “Gone Huntin’” column about fulfilling his longtime goal of taking a deer with a flintlock rifle, “The primitive pursuit of success on Martha’s Vineyard,” published Jan. 13, 2016, won second place in the best newspaper column category.
