Boys tennis competes in MIAA South Sectionals

The Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School boys tennis team sent six players to Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) tournaments on Saturday, and four players advanced to continue competing in the MIAA South Sectionals.

After a week of stellar play, Zach Danz, Chris Ferry, Owen Favreau, and Spencer Pogue will be advancing to the round of 16, which will pick up on Saturday.

No. 8 seeded Zach Danz advanced to the round of 16 with a first-round bye and a 6-0, 6-4, win over Ryan Baker of Middleboro. Chris Ferry got to the sweet 16 with a 6-1, 6-1, win over Pat Burke of Duxbury and a 6-1, 6-4, upset of 14th seeded Keegan O’Connor.

Doubles play was highlighted by Favreau and Pogue winning two matches and advancing to the round of 16. They defeated teams from Dartmouth and Duxbury without dropping a set.

Max Hammond and James Kelliher also completed, but fell in straight sets in the round of 32.
