Coast Guard Auxiliary offers free vessel safety checks

Members of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary will offer free boat safety checks to recreational boaters on Saturday, May 20, from 9 am 12 pm at the town landing near the Lagoon Pond drawbridge in Vineyard Haven. Additional boat checks will be offered in Oak Bluffs Harbor and at Prime Marina in Vineyard Haven in the afternoon.

Boat owners whose vessels meet Coast Guard standards will receive a decal which certifies that the vessel and all safety equipment onboard complies with federal and state requirements. If equipment is required to meet these requirements, boat owners can receive a decal at a later date, provided the necessary equipment is installed.

Boat owners may also request a vessel safety check by visiting the auxiliary website, cgaux.org.
