The Vineyard got three new postmasters on Tuesday. Leigh J. Vanderhoop, an Islander, will run the Chilmark Post Office. Lisa Panaccione, an off-Island Bay Stater, will take over the Edgartown Post Office, and John R. Hirt Jr., an Ohio native, will captain the West Tisbury Post Office.

The postmasters were sworn in at the American Legion Post in Vineyard Haven by John W. Fitzpatrick, manager of Post Office operations for the greater Boston district. Mr. Vanderhoop, an Army veteran, worked in the Chilmark Post Office for years prior to ascending to postmaster. Ms. Panaccione credits stamp collecting for developing her affinity for the U.S. Postal Service. She currently resides in Eastham. Mr. Hirt, a Navy veteran and resident of New Orleans prior to Hurricane Katrina, formerly commanded the Vineyard Haven American Legion Post.
