Traffic is being diverted from a small section of School Street in downtown Edgartown Friday afternoon after members of the town’s Highway Department noticed a large crack in a telephone pole and notified police.
Sergeant Joel DeRoche of the Edgartown Police Department told The Times the telephone pole is being repaired, and that he anticipated the repair would be quick. Workers in two utility trucks were on site, along with two members of the Edgartown Police Department.
Police don’t know what caused the crack. “Someone or something must have struck it,” Sergeant DeRoche said.
