On Friday, June 16, Arts and Society presents the 39th annual Bloomsday celebration, with music, drama, and humor based on the life and works of Irish writer James Joyce. The tribute begins at 8 pm at Vineyard Haven’s Katharine Cornell Theater. Performers include Jan Hyer with a cello performance of an overture of music mentioned in Joyce’s works. Lia Kahler will sing several songs Joyce wove into his writing, including “Habanera” from Carmen. Gerry Yukevich will perform “Araby” from “Dubliners”; there will be chamber music selections by the composer and pianist Philip Dietterich with soprano Molly Conole, and Pam Schnatterly returns as Molly from “Ulysses.” All tickets are $20, and can be purchased at the door or picked up in advance at Bunch of Grapes in Vineyard Haven.
