Open auditions for teens and children ages 8 and up for “The Snow Queen” begin next Saturday, Oct. 14, from 11 am to 2 pm. The staged adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale was originally published in 1844 and will be retold by the playhouse’s artistic director, MJ Bruder Munafo, and Elizabeth Wojtusik. Stop by anytime within that time frame, and expect to stay for half an hour. Children should be accompanied by an adult. All roles are open, and no preparation is necessary. This is the non-musical version of the story, but does feature choreographed movement. For more information, or if you can’t make Saturday’s auditions, email auditions@mvplayhouse.org.

Winter Stars is a new after-school theater program for kids beginning Thursday, Oct.12. The program is a fun exploration of all things theater, with a special focus on developing performance skills and creating original work. Weekly activities will include warm-ups, theater games, movement exercises, scene study, and more. The program is open to all Island children grades 3 through 8, with or without theater experience. Course instructors are Ms. Munafo, actor Anna Yukevich, and seasoned camp counselor Steven Ring, with other guest instructors. The fall session is eight weeks long, and children can attend on Mondays or Thursdays from 3:45 to 5:15 pm. Students must preregister online at mvplayhouse.org.
