To the Editor:
I was disappointed to see The MV Times coverage last week of the current show “Backwards and in Heels” at Featherstone. I don’t believe that the only two interesting stories to come out of a show with a focus on women are stories about work by two male artists. The show’s title is a reference to the extra challenges faced by women artists. Getting exposure is the first step in getting recognition. Unfortunately, The Times coverage demonstrates that things aren’t getting better for women. Is it sexism? Laziness? Doesn’t really matter what you call it, the result is the same. When there is a glaring opportunity to tell the stories of individual women artists, who gets the publicity? Not the women. It is shameful.
