Eighty hardy souls braved cold and blustery weather Sunday morning in Oak Bluffs for the 20th annual St. Patrick’s Dayish 5K. The event benefits the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School (MVRHS) track and field teams. Fittingly, MVRHS sophomore and track standout Peter Burke was swiftest around the East Chop course, clocking in at 18:58. Garri Saganeko finished second in 19:16, followed by a pair of Vineyard track teamers, Owen Porterfield (19:58) and Owen Atkins (20:38). Vineyard Hurricanes Coach Reean Steenkamp (21:42) placed fifth, and Zachary Utz (21:49) was sixth.

At the start of the race, the temperature was in the high 30s, paired with a swirling 25 mph wind. “It was great to see that amount of people race in those weather conditions, for sure,” said Coach Joe Schroeder of MVRHS track and field.

The top two women came to the line in a photo finish to take the seventh and eighth spots, overall. Adrienne Christy, a seventh grader at the West Tisbury School (22:06.28) arrived 0.43 seconds ahead of MVRHS sophomore Catherine Cherry (22:06.71).
