West Tisbury voters passed a $400,000 Proposition 2½ override Thursday night at the annual town election, 182 to 142. The sole question on the ballot, the override passed at town meeting Tuesday night by a two-thirds margin.
The two votes are enough to put the tax increase in place to balance the town’s budget. Voters re-elected several unopposed candidates, as well.
Moderator Dan Waters, selectman Jeffrey “Skipper” Manter, board of health member Timothy Barnett (Barnett was also re-elected as constable), board of assessors member Michael Colaneri, town clerk Tara Whiting, tree warden Jeremiah Brown, finance committee member Greg Orcutt, three-year library trustee Caroline Flanders, and parks and recreation committee members Lisa Amols all were re-elected Thursday.
Tax collector Brent Taylor was also re-elected. Taylor intends to retire in June, the same month a special election will be held to seal the deal in merging the tax collector and treasurer positions. If all goes well at that special election, the town will dissolve Taylor’s position on the first day of July.
Frances Finnegan and Robert Hauck were elected as library trustees.
