Third annual Martha’s Vineyard Mini Maker Faire

The third annual Martha’s Vineyard Mini Maker Faire will be held on Saturday, May 12, from 10 to 4 pm at the M.V. Agricultural Hall. According to a press release, the Mini Maker Faire is a free event to make, create, learn, invent, craft, think, play, celebrate, and be inspired by science, technology, arts, engineering, and math. It’s family-friendly, all ages welcome.

In the broadest definition, everyone is a maker. The Maker spirit is about innovation, but not only technological innovation; it means anyone who comes up with a clever solution or a new idea. The DIY (do-it-yourself) movement is a big part of the Maker ideal. The spirit of the Maker Faire is to be inclusive, and all makers are welcome. To present at the Maker Faire you don’t need to reinvent the wheel; they’re looking for anyone who makes or does something interesting they would like to share. They’re interested in anything from beekeeping to robot building, a clothing swap or a fix-it class, and welcome performances, demonstration, and lectures.

The Maker Faire will be a day filled with fun and learning. Many of the presenters will have hands-on activities for both children and adults. Come learn to knap flint or repurpose an old T shirt. Play new board games, or make a stop-animation movie. The MVLA brought the Mini Maker Faire to Martha’s Vineyard because they know this is an Island of extraordinary people doing cool stuff, and they want to create a forum where everyone can share their project or special interest.
