If you’re employee was late for work this morning and blamed an alarm clock, he’s probably telling the truth.
Nearly 5,000 customers on the Island were without power overnight, according to an Eversource spokesman.
“At about 2:20 a.m., a piece of equipment called a ‘recloser’ failed. The failure of this system protection device caused one of our underwater cables from Falmouth to trip off-line, interrupting power to about 5,000 Vineyard customers. By 2:30, we had restored power to about 1,800 of the affected customers, and by 3:30 we had all power restored,” Michael Druand wrote in an email.
The outage affected Oak Bluffs customers, as a Times employee received notice of the outage in the early morning hours.
