Vineyard Wind submitted a Draft Environmental Impact Report to the commonwealth Tuesday for its proposed 800-megawatt wind farm, according to a release. The report was delivered to the Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs.
Vineyard Wind expects to begin construction on its wind farm in 2019, and become operational by 2021.
The company recently held a ribbon cutting for an operations and maintenance facility in Vineyard Haven. It’s the only one of three competitors with plans to situate such a facility on-Island.
Like Bay State Wind and Deepwater Wind, the other two companies vying for space on the seafloor south of the Vineyard, Vineyard Wind will will have to wait until May 23 to learn which company or companies have been awarded leases to build wind turbines.
