I know May just started, but it feels kind of like a runaway train already. Today is the 10th, which means in a week many places will be open, the Chilmark Store (May 17), the Outermost Inn and the Chilmark Tavern (May 18). Memorial Day is just 18 days away. I’m not sure I’m ready. Are you ready for summer? I never feel like I am. I spend the end of the winter complaining about the weather and how I wish summer were here, and then when it’s almost here, I completely panic because I don’t have any sunblock, I’m not ready to put in summer working hours, and my closet is filled with sweaters. Really, it’s the “not ready to put in summer working hours” that gets me every time. I know that resistance is futile, but still I resist, and think, “This summer will be different, I won’t work all the time, I’ll have some fun.” And then it’s Labor Day, and I’m dirty and tired and a little richer, and yeah, I managed to have some fun.
