The Steamship Authority has announced its annual art contest for students in grades K through 12. The contest theme is “Sail into Imagination,” and is open to all students in the SSA’s communities of Barnstable, Fairhaven, New Bedford, Falmouth, Martha’s Vineyard, and Nantucket. According to a press release, 13 entries will be chosen, and winners will be featured in a 2019 calendar, as well as aboard SSA ferries and on the SSA website.

Students are encouraged to share their vision of traveling aboard SSA ferries to Cape and Island ports, and to express their artistic interpretations of growing up by the sea. All submissions must be original artwork. The entry deadline is May 31.

“The entries we’ve seen over the past two years have shown remarkable creativity and talent from students,” Robert Davis, general manager of the SSA, said in the press release. “Each young artist brings a unique perspective of traveling on our ferries. We’re looking forward to another collection of inspired images to share in our calendar and in our terminals.”

In addition to having their art displayed in the calendar and aboard SSA ferries, students will be awarded a $100 gift card for passenger travel and an invitation to attend the official art unveiling reception this July. Submissions are accepted online, through mail, or at the SSA terminal no later than May 31. Winners will be announced on the Steamship website by late June.
