The Vineyard varsity Babe Ruth team finished the regular season on Sunday with a convincing doubleheader sweep over visiting Sandwich, 10-3 and 8-3.
In game one, the Vineyard rang up 15 hits. Isaac Richards had three, while Hunterfox Jakusik, Andrew Marchand and Leo Neville had two each. Neville added four RBIs and Parker Ben David hit a two-run double over the centerfielder’s head. Starting pitcher Jeremy Regan limited the visitors to one hit over four shutout innings. Cam Moore and Nate Porterfield came up big defensively with two web gems apiece.
Game two was much the same, with the Vineyard jumping out to an early 4-0 lead and collecting 12 hits by game’s end. Marchand, Miles Sidoti, Ryan Mendez, Jared Regan and Jeremy Regan had two hits apiece, with Marchand and Sidoti each driving in two runs. Jared Regan started on the mound and matched his brother’s game one effort with four shutout innings, allowing just one hit. Following an injury at the catcher position, Owen Bresnick stepped in during both games and handled the pitching staff flawlessly.
The Vineyard gave a complete team effort and has a 7-5 record heading into the Gateway League playoffs. Also participating on the team is Kenny Hatt, Jake Howell, Owen Metell, Hunter Meader, Ryan Sawyer and Keaton Aliberti.
