West Tisbury selectmen and the West Tisbury finance committee appointed Jane Dreeben to the finance committee Tuesday night at a special joint meeting at the Hobbs House.
“We’ve looked through the résumé, spoke to her — as you know, she’s the only applicant we had,” finance committee chairman Gary Montrowl said. “You know her strengths are in other areas, but she seems smart, energetic. She’s willing to get involved, and we felt that, you know, let’s give it a chance. She’ll serve out the rest of the term, then she’ll have to run for office.”
“So she’ll run next April?” selectmen chairman Cynthia Mitchell asked.
“Yup,” Montrowl said.
The selectmen voted unanimously to appoint Dreeben, and the committee voted 4-0.
Montrowl noted Dreeben wasn’t present at the joint meeting, at the committee’s request. He said it was to keep the conversation from getting awkward.
On her webpage, Dreeben has written about her background: “Jane Dreeben is a psychologist on Martha’s Vineyard,” the page reads. “For 15 years, she has also orchestrated and participated in collaborative arts projects. She has recently produced musicals in partnership with young island artists and professionals as benefits for Vineyard nonprofits. Jane has also worked as a teacher, administrator, board member, and fundraiser.”
“I am pleased to be joining the West Tisbury finance committee and look forward to participating,” Dreeben wrote in an email to The Times.
