Rob Douglas wins third world speed sailing title

Rob Douglas from Vineyard Haven, representing Team Lynch Associates and the Black Dog Tavern Co., won his third world speed sailing title at the 2018 International Kiteboarding Association Speed World Championships in Masirah, Oman, last week.

Douglas placed first in all five races, and set the best average speed of the event at 50.25 knots/57.78 mph over 250 meters, and a maximum speed of 60 mph. He defeated the current world recordholder Alex Caizergues of France, and remains undefeated in all international kitesurfing speed sailing regattas since October 2011.

In 2008 and 2018, Rob set two outright world speed sailing records in Namibia, Africa. He will be competing at the North American Speed Sailing Invitational on Martha’s Vineyard from Oct. 21 to Nov. 4.
