The fourth annual Vineyard Triathlon

Three Vineyard athletes place in the top ten.

Spencer Coffin of Arlington won the 70.3-mile half-triathlon at the fourth annual Vineyard Triathlon on Saturday in Oak Bluffs with a men’s and overall best time of 4:20:08.9. Breaking that down, Coffin swam 1.2 miles off Inkwell Beach in 18:29, rode his bike 56 miles in 2:26:50, and ran 13.1 miles to the finish line at Waban Park in 1:32.24. William Hafferty of Boston was second overall in 4:29:52.8, with Rob Forshaw of Derry, N.H. (4:39:10.7), third; Nate Baynes of Boston (4:42:24.2), fourth; and Thomas Morley of Milton (4:42:32.2), fifth.

Joanna Davies of Cambridge was the women’s winner, and placed 13th overall in 5:03:00.8. Rounding out the women’s top five were fellow Cambridge triathlete Marguerite Sulmont (17th, 5:11:23.3); Kristin Overton, Middletown, Conn. (21st, 5:17:00.8); Diane Baisch, Philadelphia, Penn. (22nd, 5:18:18.5); and Allison Boyd, Boston (23rd, 5:18:57.1).

Matt Coffey of Vineyard Haven (32nd, 5:35:35.9) was the first and only local triathlete to finish the 70.3-mile event.

In the shorter Sprint Triathlon (0.33-mile swim, 11.3-mile bike race, 3.2-mile run), Kevin Ehrlich of East Hartford, Conn., clocked in first with a time of 1:05:52.4. Jason Snow of East Freetown (1:05:53.4) was the Sprint runner-up. Kate Mills of Allston (1:07:46.7) was first among the women, and third overall. Daniel Norris of Mattapan (1:07:50.8) was fourth, and Melania Cybriwsky of Somerville (1:09:40.4) placed fifth.

Three Vineyard triathletes made the overall top 10. Chris Cajolet of West Tisbury took sixth in 1:09:47.5, Gary Maynard of Vineyard Haven (1:09:57.3) was eighth, and Whit Hanschka (1:11.15.3), also of Vineyard Haven, came in 10th.

The top three Vineyard women were Brynn Allen-Rickstad, no town listed (47th, 1:24:59.6); Moira Silva, West Tisbury (65th, 1:29:22.0); and Eliska Suryckova, Vineyard Haven (71st, 1:30:03.9).

Among Aquabikers, Chris Jordan of Swansea placed first in 2:52:47.4, with Emily Tato of Cambridge second in 3:02:52.9.

In the two relay events, the Holmes Hole Hammers of Vineyard Haven led the way in the Half-Relay with a time of 4:07:54.4, and the Flying Keane’s of Middlebury, Conn., won the Sprint Relay in 1:05:14.2.
