The Federated Church has Wreath Workshops next Monday through Wednesday, Nov. 26 to 28, from 9 am to 4 pm at the Parish House. You can help make all-natural hand-decorated wreaths to be sold at the Festival of Wreaths on Thursday, Nov. 29, from 4 to 6 pm. You may purchase the wreath you make at the workshop for $70 that day. Experience is not required.

The Festival of the Wreaths is Thursday, Nov. 29, from 4 to 6 pm, when the decorated wreaths will be displayed in the Federated Church Meetinghouse for sale at a price of $50 to $70. “The King and I” will be shown at 7:30 pm on Thursday, Nov. 29, at the M.V. Film Center., recorded live at London’s Palladium. This musical tells of the relationship that develops between the King of Siam and Anna, a British schoolteacher who was hired in Siam to teach his many wives and children.

More years ago than I want to admit, I saw the original musical performance onstage in Washington, D.C., as the last show before it went to Broadway. Our tickets were provided by the Thai Embassy on behalf of our classmates, who were actually descendants of this king. I have to agree with the M.V. Film Center, which claim, “It is the greatest musical from the golden age of musicals.”

Islanders will be sorry to hear of the death of Kate Sedgwick earlier this month, succumbing to cancer. Her husband is Todd Sedgwick, active in the Vineyard Haven Yacht Club, and former ambassador to Slovakia. They have summered here for many years.

Early warnings: The American Legion Christmas Bazaar is Saturday, Dec. 1, from 10 to 1 pm. The Christmas Faire at the West Tisbury Congregational Church will be Saturday, Dec. 1, from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm. This is your chance to find festive holiday decorations and handmade gifts for friends or family.

The Army Corps is wondering what you think should be done to repair or replace the bridges over the Cape Cod Canal. They will listen to your ideas on Tuesday, Dec. 11, in the Martha’s Vineyard High School Performing Arts Center, probably in the evening. Start thinking about that.

This what happens when you mix up the dates. Apologies and belated birthday greetings to Adam Rogers, who celebrated on Tuesday.

Big bunches of birthday balloon wishes go out Wednesday to Pam Cassel. Happy birthday to Alexander Ray on Thursday. Friday belongs to Greg Coogan. Wish the best on Monday to Chris Chandler.

Heard on Main Street: Life isn’t fair, but it’s still good. Be thankful.
