Boch releases vision for Vineyard Haven park

A rendering of Boch Park.

As work continues on Boch Park on Beach Road in Vineyard Haven, we’re getting our first glimpse of the vision of Ernie Boch Jr. for this property.

A rendering released by Boch shows a cobblestone entryway with a compass rose at the gate. There will be two stone walls outside the fenced-in area. A wrought-iron fence and gate is across the front of the property, and the design shows a stockade fence separating the park from its neighbors.

In the center of the park, there are flower gardens and a wide circle of grass at the center with a walking path around it. A boardwalk leads to the waterfront on Vineyard Haven Harbor. There are also a handful of trees on the outer edges of the park.

Dan Clemmey, who has been guiding the park through town boards, told The Times work will continue as long as weather permits. “He’s really excited about this,” Clemmey said of Boch.

The statue that Boch plans to erect of his father is not included in the rendering. Boch told The Times last week that he is looking for a sculptor to create it.

  1. Initial impression is very positive. Sadly, it won’t take long for Islanders to toss empty nips all around the park. Ernie has far greater respect for his father and MV than some Islanders have for MV.

  2. A statue of his Father? Who will be the next Off Islander with money who buys a big house, neglects the permitting restrictions when they want to remodel the house and just pays the fine and builds on another level to the house, dredges the harbor near their dock so their Yatch could moor at the dock when told not too and just pays the fine, and oh yeah when asked to donate a car from one of his at the time 6 automobile dealerships to the Boys and Girls Club so they could raffle it off in a fund raiser tells them they can have it for cost, John Kerry. At least he doesn’t have some Alpaca’s roaming around his large estate on the vineyard so he can write his off as a farm like EB jr. Kerry just likes to see all the cook outs all summer and ketchup bottles being squeezed.

    • Comes across as suspiciously close to requiring the Have’s to redistribute, sorry: donate, to the Haven’t Got As Much But Complain When Expected To Help The Have Even Less’s.

  3. I assume those are benches on the left and right ? I hope the statue does not have mr Boch does not have him standing in the back of a Subaru.
I don’t recall him being especially generous to the community, but it’s Ernie junior’s call. He has my respect, as he often gives to the community.
Glad to see something nice going in there.

  4. If its a public park will the Tisbury board of assessors make it tax exempt? Its Mr. Boch’s property, he’s entitled to do what he wants with it as long as it complies with current zoning. If he wants to erect a statute of his father, that’s his choice. If I was him and I read the nasty comments, I’d put up 100 units of affordable housing to ‘do the right thing’. Then of course the other taxpayers in Tisbury would have to pay up for school space to accommodate the offspring of the tenants. Leave the guy alone.

    • What’s all this talk about nasty cormorants ? they are nice birds if you feed them enough brownies ! … Oh never mind —

  5. MR BOCH’S MEMORY MIGHT BETTER BE SERVED BY A HUMBLE PLAQUE TASTEFULLY PLACED IN THE LOVELY PARK. STATUES IN OUR COUNTRY SHOULD BE BE RESERVED FOR THOSE WHO SACRIFICED OR CONTRIBUTED IN AN EXTRAORDINARY WAY TO THE WELFARE AND BETTERMENT OF HUMANITY, NOT FOR THE MOTIVE OF SELF ENRICHMENT.
