Oh the glorious days of summer. Its hot, hazy and humid, but
isnt it wonderful? For my money, it sure beats gray skies and
snow. Once a beach bunny, always a beach bunny. As I sit on the beach
days, I cant help but remember the days we spent as kids on
the same beach with our cousins. I just keep thinking about how lucky
we are, being able to go to such a beautiful beach virtually every
day, even if its just for a quick swim on the way home from
work.
My brother Bobby and his kids, Abby and Gwen, arrived today for a
week of fun in the sun with Riley and Amelia. Aunt Pammy and cousin
Evie will be joining us all at weeks end as well. It will be
a week full of beach, Flying Horses, ice cream and every other summer
event that we can possible squeeze in.
We had a huge gang at the beach today, having barged in on the Morris,
Hess, and Hammond families, as well as several others that I didnt
really get to meet in all the chaos. All together, I think there were
about 15 kids between the ages of two and 10. It was crazy, but lots
of fun. I was really impressed with how well the kids all got along.
Two highlights of the day were courtesy of Andy Hammond, as he towed
several of the kids around on boogie boards tied together in a little
flotilla. Later, Andy once again entertained everyone by swimming
out to get a very large piece of wood floating in on the waves. I
have no idea where such a thing would come from but it looked like
a piece of a dock or something. Andy pulled it up on shore and then
all the kids lined up on it so Kelly Hess could take a picture to
commemorate the day and the fun.
Vineyard Videoconferencing, located at 190B Upper Main Street, behind
Soigne, is holding an open house tonight from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. You
can go by, check out the facilities, have a drink and some snacks,
and see what theyre all about. Its amazing technology and helpful
for a lot of different things. If you have any questions, you can
call them at 508-627-5964.
Remember that Circus Smirkus is this weekend at Katama Farm. Performances
are at noon and 5 pm on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. I havent
seen it myself but everyone I know who has gone in the past has loved
the show. It sounds like a fun way to spend an hour or two.
Jack Murray celebrated his fifth birthday with a pirate party at the
Marthas Vineyard Community Services playground on Saturday.
He had lots of friends there celebrating with him. Most of the kids
were friends from The Rainbow Place. It was a great time, complete
with a ball pit, pirate cake, and piñata.
Haley and Melanie Krauss, daughters of Richard and Cindy Krauss of
Edgartown, recently received their green belts in karate. It sounds
like both girls are excellent in the martial arts. They are also very
intelligent and very beautiful. Powerful, smart and beautiful
what a combination!
With all the heat and humidity weve had this week, remember
to drink lots of water to stay hydrated and healthy. Keep cool if
you can. If you need it, a lot of public places have air conditioning.
And remember to provide lots of water for your animals too. Dont
keep dogs tied outside for too long and dont keep them in cars!
And remember that the pavement gets HOT! It can be hard on your dogs
feet!
Have a great week, everyone. Be sure to get me your news.
