Congratulations to Lil and Ed Colligan who celebrate 54 years of wedded
bliss today. We wish you many more happy and healthy years together.
Last week I told you that Marge Anderson has moved from the Vineyard
to Tyler, Texas, to be near her family. I knew Marge was active in
town affairs, but I also asked Emily Wetherall if she could tell me
more about her.
Marge was the kindergarten teacher at the Tisbury School for many
years. Emily says, It was always fascinating to go to Linda
Jeans with Marge. She would run into many of her old students
and their children. Theyd say, Mrs. Anderson, You probably
dont remember me, but you had my Dad in your class many years
ago. Marge would look at the younger person and say You
must be
(and remember the persons name) because you look
just like him.
Other friends have told me that Marge was an active member of Christ
United Methodist Church. You may see her fine needlepoint work on
some of the kneeling benches there. She created one of her own and
finished several pieces for other members of the congregation. She
quietly financed the church picture postcards of these pieces of needlework.
Many in the congregation treasured her birthday memories. For many
years Marge carefully collected the birthdays of church members. Then
she would send a card with a personal note to each of the people in
the church on the special day. We can see why she will be missed by
her many friends.
Our own Mark Lovewell will be performing sea chanteys next Wednesday
evening at the Marthas Vineyard Historical Society in Edgartown.
If you havent heard Mark sing, you are in for a special treat.
The free program is part of the education program at the society aimed
primarily at children. All ages are welcome. The outdoor event begins
at 6:30 pm.
Best wishes for a rapid recovery go out to Sharon Rzemian. Sharon
is our town animal control officer who has shown her compassion for
all animals in many ways. I remember two years ago she happily told
us of the successful rescue of two cats by our firemen from a serious
house fire. Sharon has been suffering from several tick-borne diseases.
If you have an animal control problem in Tisbury, give her a break
for now. Call the communications center at 508-693-1212 for help.
Get well soon, Sharon.
This year the congregation of the First Baptist Church is marking
the 225th anniversary of the church. This Sunday the service will
be a musical celebration, to celebrate in music and song those who
have made music an important part of the history. Many of the favorite
old hymns will mark the day at the church on Spring Street. All are
invited to this Sunday service, which runs from 11 am to noon.
Big bunches of birthday balloon wishes go out today to Wally Hammond.
Parties will be on Saturday for Perry Garfinkel and B.J. Lowers. Happy
birthday to Alekzandria Berryman who celebrates on Sunday. We wish
many happy returns to Nancy Gardella. Her special day is Wednesday.
Heard on Main Street: I think Ill go out to my car to
cool off. |
