New candy store offers old-fashioned favorites

The Good Ship Lollipop, a new candy store at 9 Beach Road in Vineyard Haven, tempts shoppers with a sweet voyage through a bounty of treats from past and present.

Music playing in the store includes sweets-themed selections, such as “The Lollipop Kid,” to set the mood for a trip to memories of candy past, such as Mary Jane’s, Squirrels, circus peanuts, candy buttons and wax lips, to name a few. Fudge, ice cream novelties, popcorn, pretzels and drinks round out the selection for those with a more modern taste. Sugar-free fudge and candies also are available. In addition, the store offers balloons, gifts, and toys.

Storeowner Marguerite Cook will be a familiar face to many. She served as the Oak Bluffs tax collector. She invites those who enjoyed the candy she set out on the counter in her office to satisfy their cravings at the new shop, which is open from 11 am to 6 pm every day.
