A new look for mvtimes.com
April 14, 2008 – 3:11 pmIf you visit mvtimes.com regularly, you will have noticed that the general design changed last Thursday.
In addition to giving the site a cleaner, more spacious look, the redesign is intended to help create some room and pave the way for new features, like this blog.
Changing a website’s design can be a trying experience, though. We, as web users, tend to attain a certain comfort level with our favorite sites. Knowing exactly where to look for this and where to click on that is convenient. Understanding this, my goal was to make the necessary changes while balancing the inherent compromises that came with them.
While there is still some work to do, and more new features in the wings, I am pleased with how things have turned out so far.
Feel free to let me know what you think.

I like the overall new design, but can’t find the weekly announcements, accomplishments, births, engagements, weddings etc. that used to be in the Calendar section.. Those are important to me as I like to keep up on the goings on of the Vineyard. Please bring them back or point out to me where they have been moved to!
Thanks!

Trying to find the breaking news on Tisbury Town Meeting was a total pain. Perhaps there could be a subhead under News for breaking news?
Normally I am happy to wait until Thursday to catch up with things, but sometimes it is nice to go online and learn more quickly.

Phoenix, the links you were looking for are now featured in a highlighted box on the Calendar home page. Other links can be found running under the main navigation at the top, as well as, in the tabbed box to the right under the ads.
Charles, as I’m sure you discovered, our latest news updates are only available on the home page in the ticker under the top banner. While I do not control when content is added or updated, I will consider how I can make it easier to locate throughout the site.
Thank you both for your input.

The new look is great — but where is the astrology column?
By Christine on Apr 17, 2008
The following quote is taken from page 11 of this week’s Times:
“Arlan Wise’s astrology column will no longer appear in the newspaper nor on The Times’ website. To see her column email arlanw@vineyard.net.”
More information about this can be seen in this week’s News in Brief

I understand Arlan’s column has moved but why was she discontinued? I visited the MV Times website daily to read her column… I am disapointed she’s no longer a feature of your publication. I understand you don’t personally control the content, but please pass along my feelings to the powers that be.
Many thanks!
