ASTROLOGY: A metaphor for our times...
January 13, 2005

By Arlan Wise

When Uranus entered the sign of Pisces in the spring of 2003, the brilliant astrologer Michael Lutin put a picture of a tsunami wave on his website as his metaphor for what this new energy would mean. Other astrologers used Hokusai’s famous picture of the big wave to illustrate Uranus in Pisces. The feeling was that Uranus, the planet of the unexpected, symbolic of liberation from restrictive circumstances, would wash clean what had become stagnant in society in the past 84 years. The message is that change is inevitable; there is nothing to hang onto. Uranus was last in Pisces from 1920-1928. Think about the similarities between that time period and now.

The Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami occurred on the full moon in Cancer, a sign symbolizing large bodies of water. The loss of life is terrible. Yet, the disaster has had the Piscean effect of touching everyone’s heart and emphasizing the fact that we are all connected. It has taught big lessons about compassion. Let us hope that this feeling of caring continues and the people of the world grow closer as we help those who have nothing.

Make a big donation to the disaster relief.

Thursday, Jan. 13 Moon in Pisces. Today is the day of the year when the sun and Saturn stand opposite each other. It may feel like time is standing still. You may feel stifled by authority figures. Chiron is hovering nearby to remind you that you have to take responsibility for your own health and healing. You can’t blame anyone else today.

Friday, Jan. 14 Moon in Pisces, VC 3:22 pm. It would be useful to look at your dreams, hopes, and wishes and select those which can be realistically achieved in 2005. Use your intuition as you plan out the year ahead. Once the moon goes void, it’s time to coast. Take a walk along the water. Have afternoon tea at 4 pm. Meditate.

Saturday, Jan. 15 Moon in Aries. This is a get-up-and-go weekend. You can put one of yesterday’s dreams to action. It’s a do-your-own-thing kind of day. Don’t be hindered by what other people may think. Set yourself a challenge for the weekend. Step out in front and do something to let people know who you are.

Sunday, Jan. 16 Moon in Aries. Today is the one day of the year when the sun and Chiron come together. It gives an opportunity to heal your wounds. Use the energy of the day to focus on your career mistakes and misadventures. Look for patterns which you can break. Get yourself unstuck.

Monday, Jan. 17 Moon in Taurus. The next three days have an abundance of earth energy. It won’t feel like this again until the spring. You can put ideas into form and make them real. Painters should paint, musicians should make music. Give your body a lot of attention and listen to its needs. Plant some seeds.

Tuesday, Jan. 18 Moon in Taurus. Today is a good day to shop for bargains. You’ll be able to spot the treasure in the heap. Scan the sale catalogues and online sites. Give your houseplants a bath and a bigger pot. Plant indoor herbs. Get a massage. Tonight is the night to forget the diet and really enjoy a gourmet dinner.

Wednesday, Jan. 19 Moon in Taurus, VC from 5:19 pm until 5:24 pm, when it enters Gemini. Today is the last day of Capricorn; the sun enters Aquarius at 6:22 pm. Make the changes that will further your career. Call for that interview or application. Update your business plan. Relax by pleasing your mind tonight, meet with friends to talk.

Thursday, Jan. 20 Moon in Gemini. You’ll feel as if you’ve lost some grounding; the current tendency is to be more idealistic than realistic. Concentrate on your correspondence. You’ll find the words to express your meaning. Gather the information you need; visit the library or Internet. Start a correspondence or online course of study. The balance between you as an individual and you as a partner demands attention today.

Friday, Jan. 21 Moon in Gemini, VC 4:25 pm. There’s lovely energy to write, lecture, teach, or just gossip the day away. Answer all your e-mails. Check in with your friends who live in foreign lands. Buy new electronic equipment. Start the weekend early once the moon goes void. It’s a night for mental bubble-gum, funny videos, and fun books.

Saturday, Jan. 22
Moon in Cancer. This is a family weekend. Invite your siblings and parents to your house or go visit Mom and Dad at their house. Bring gifts of food. Stock up your pantry for the snowbound days. Bring donations to the food bank. Write another check for tsunami relief. Cook a big dinner for your family.

Sunday, Jan. 23 Moon in Cancer. It’s another day to hang around the house. Sleep late and relax. Look at the seed catalogues and imagine your next garden. You’ll feel the heaviness of the Saturn-Chiron opposition as the moon approaches Saturn. It brings up the conflict of how to split up your time and attention between home/family and career.

Monday, Jan. 24 Moon VC Cancer, enters Leo 6:21 pm. It’s always hard to leave home when the workweek starts with an all day void-of-course moon. It’s a good day to take a personal day and just putter around the house. Give yourself the day off if you can. You won’t accomplish much at work.

Tuesday, Jan. 25
Moon in Leo. Today’s full moon marks a month since the tsunami struck. Make another generous donation for the relief work. It’s a day to show off your stuff. Get out and be seen. Mercury stands opposite Saturn, making it a sober day. Your illusions will fall away and you will see the truth of the matter. It gives great concentration to do precision work.

Wednesday, Jan. 26 Moon in Leo, VC 5:38 pm. There’s a lot of energy this week that is picking at old wounds. A Leo moon will help you to look at the past with love and have compassion towards those who hurt you. Have some fun with kids today. Do some things that bring you pleasure. Smile at everyone you see.

Thursday, Jan. 27
Moon in Virgo. Venus stands opposite Saturn, and they pull off your rose-colored glasses. They show you the reality of your love life and of your financial status. There is no room for wishful thinking today; you have to be a grown-up. You will see if your relationship is dead or alive and what you must do to fix it.
