Two
centuries and counting
The First Baptist Church in Vineyard Haven is celebrating their 225th
anniversary this year. To start off the year-long festivities, the
church is hosting a dinner tonight at 6 pm. The catered affair will
also include a history of the church.
Tickets are $20 and available by calling 508-693-8859.
Scholarship for college students
The Bradford and Dorothy Church Scholarship is offered to Martha's
Vineyard Regional High School graduates who are full-time undergraduate
college students. Applications are available in the guidance office
or at www.mvrhs.org/guide. Application deadline is April 4.After school
program begins
The Creative Choices After School Program begins on Jan. 31 and runs
through April 1. Pick up a brochure at any elementary school. Registrations
must be in by Jan. 25.Graphic landscape design course
Landscape designer Alice Evans of Cambridge will teach Quick
Graphic Techniques for Landscape Design, at the Polly Hill Arboretum
(PHA) on Fri., Jan. 21, 1 to 4 pm, and Sat., Jan. 22, 9 am to noon.
The hands-on class will introduce ways to improve communication of
landscape design concepts with clients, co-workers, and contractors.
Ms. Evans will share techniques to help participants translate their
ideas into an accurate visual presentation using photographs and other
media to create views of space, mass, and changes to the landscape
over time. Ms. Evans, an alumna of the Radcliffe Seminars Landscape
Design Program, has offered this class to fellow landscape design
students. Cost is $65/$55 for PHA members. For info call 508-693-9426.
A day among the flowers
Take a trip into springtime at the Rhode Island Flower Show on Feb.
17 with the Tisbury Travel Club. The trip costs $30 per person which
includes the bus and admission to the show. The group will leave on
the 8:30 am boat and return on the 5:15 pm.
The Tisbury Travel Club is a non-profit group providing off-Island
adventures through the Tisbury Senior Center, but the trip is for
