Walking on the red carpet
March 3, 2005

For most of us, a trip down the red carpet on Oscar night will never happen. But last Sunday evening, more than 75 people walked the red carpet at the Portuguese-American Club in Oak Bluffs to attend an Oscar night party. The shindig was organized by Caroline Derrig and Brian Keats and was a fundraiser for tsunami relief.

The party had an Asian theme, carried out by chefs Stewart Roundville and Bobby Kistner of Sweet Life and Slice of Life Café. Yummy hors d’oeuvres included tofu salad, lobster Rangoon, tempura bacon, shrimp spring rolls, teriyaki beef, and Asian chicken wings.

The club was transformed with loads of glitter, twinkling lights, and Oscar statues. A “Hollywood” sign greeted guests who came dressed to the nines. During the television broadcast, guests continued to dance to the DJ’s disco music, except when Jamie Foxx accepted his Best Actor award. Everyone paused and listened to the actor who won for his work in the film “Ray.” Dancing continued into the wee hours.
