Sarah Pauzauskie twists, and turns, with grace.

Friends, family, and yoga enthusiasts thronged the new Vineyard Yoga and Body Therapies in West Tisbury's Middletown Village Saturday to congratulate owner Andy Estrella and get a peek at the gleaming new facility.

Andy, along with Sarah Pauzauskie, will be teaching Bikram's Hot Yoga at the well-appointed center. Andy will offer high-energy Ashtanga Vinyasa classes as well. Familiar teachers Megan Grennan and Josh Montoya are also on the class roster.

Saturday's grand opening featured free morning classes then an afternoon open house with sumptuous food, genial socializing, and lots of "ooohs" and "aaahs" as visitors checked out the big bright studio, serene massage room, and the convenient changing and shower spaces.

Andy, who was born in Oak Bluffs, received intensive Bikram training in Los Angeles as is required of all Hot Yoga teachers, and also studied Ashtanga with Richard Freeman at the Yoga Workshop in Boulder, Colo.

Also offering massage and other body work, Andy said he sees his new endeavor complementing the wide variety of yoga instruction already offered on the Island.

Inventive families in the spotlight
While other people eat left over mashed potatoes and turkey or invade the shopping malls on the Friday after Thanksgiving, last November three Island families headed to Cambridge and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.) for an annual event known as the F.A.T. (Friday After Thanksgiving) Chain Reaction. More>>

First, a red-footed falcon by accident... now, an Australian emu on purpose
While it proved extremely chancy last August to photograph the red-footed falcon apparently blown across the Atlantic Ocean to Katama totally by accident, my recent visit to West Tisbury was borne of a far greater certainty of success. More>>
