OAK BLUFFS
March 10, 2005

By Megan Alley - 508-693-0850 - meganislandmegan@verizon.net

If you notice a different e-mail address, it is because my computer is not working and I can get access to AOL on another computer. I spent one and a half hours (early hours) on Monday connected to a Dell Tech somewhere in the hinterlands who gave me numerous instructions, most of which required me to move furniture, computer tower, and other pieces of equipment so that I could disconnect this wire and reconnect that one. Alas, nothing worked and right after I was instructed to disable various pieces of hardware, the portable phone I was using lost its power and so went my connection with the tech. Hopefully by the time you read this, my computer will have made a complete recovery.

Among vacationers last week were Jennifer and Cliff Robinson along with their children Paul and James who enjoyed a cruise to various ports of call including the Grand Caymans, Belize, and Cozumel. They all enjoyed the trip and the boys had a wonderful time swimming and playing on the beach. Most surprising was that there were two other Island families also on the cruise.

The Oak Bluffs Public Library announces that the “One Book, One Island” books have been chosen for this year. For adults, “The Big House” by George Howe Colt has been chosen, and younger readers will enjoy “Tangerine,” by Edward Bloor. The library has purchased extra paperbacks of each to increase availability. Events are scheduled for April 7 through April 10, including a visit by George Howe Colt, so people should get reading! Also the Martha's Vineyard Library Association Children's Committee is sponsoring a show by the Fabulists on Saturday, March 19 at 11 am at the Vineyard Playhouse. It's called “Gallymanders” and is an Irish Folk Tale and great family entertainment. Call the library for info. Heather Hughes sends us news from Panama City Beach, Fla. (where she kindly tells us the temp is down from last week's almost 80 degrees to 40). Heather's daughter Emily, the granddaughter of Donna and Jaime Leon, turns four on March 9. Emily celebrated with a party on Wednesday afternoon. The family will be “coming home” in May. Heather is looking forward to spending the summer with her girls and showing them the way she grew up on the Island. We send birthday smiles to Will deBettencourt whose special day is March 12. Enjoy your week and send your news along to me.
