Casting couches

The Martha's Vineyard Independent Film Festival is putting out a call for couches. Do you have a couch to lend for the weekend? Any shape or size will do. Festival couch collectors will pick-up on Friday, March 18 and return the furniture on Monday, March 21. In return for your weekend couch donation you will receive three free tickets to any film and three bags of popcorn.

Interested couches (or their owners) should call Thomas Bena at 508-645-2705.

Printmakers' art on show

Printmaking in all its creative variety will be on display at Featherstone Center for the Arts in Oak Bluffs, beginning with an opening reception this Sunday, March 13. The show continues until April 20.

Leslie Baker, Renee Balter, Virginia Besse, John Holladay, Al Hurwitz, Melissa Patterson, and Linda Ziegler are among the many artists whose work will be on display. Meet the printmakers and learn more about their craft on Sunday, 4 to 6 pm. For more information, call 508-693-1850.

Vintage voices and love songs

Contrary to the Paul McCartney ditty, people have not had enough of silly love songs. To prove that point, the Vintage Voices will sing an entire concert, “Love Songs, For Better or For Worse,” next Monday, March 14, 1:30 pm, at the Tisbury Senior Center.

Under the direction of Philip Dietterich, Vintage Voices is a group of Islanders who sing for the love of it. The fun program will examine the many states of love through songs like “People Will Say We're In Love” and “I'm Just A Girl Who Can't Say No” from the musical “Oklahoma!”; the bittersweet “Send In the Clowns”; and the liberation anthem, “I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Out Of My Hair” from “South Pacific.”

The free concert is open to everyone and is sure to wash away some of your winter gray.
