Well
the good news is that the birds have resumed their early morning
wake-up sounds. I am optimistically taking that to mean that spring
will soon be here. Only time will tell.
In the meantime town residents are still traveling southward or
returning to the Island from that direction.
Mary Alley along with her children, Talia and Jeremy, returned from
a week's stay in Mexico very tanned and relaxed, until they viewed
the snow at Logan Airport as their plane was landing on the return
trip. While in that warmer climate they had many adventures, but
the favorite by far was when all three swam with the dolphins.
Lou Healy visited with her daughter's family, Mary and Bruce McNamee,
in Sagamore Beach, and she greatly enjoyed playing grandmother to
their son, Colin David.
Our local UPS driver Mark Kokoszka has delivered many a surprise
package to customers over the years but none as special as the one
he and his wife Erin received when their baby girl was born on March
9.
Gaynell Downs has been spending some time at the Downs homestead
on New York Ave. But she left for a weekend Downs get-together at
her sister-in-law Mary Downs Butler's home. Joining them were Gaynell's
husband, Charles, and their three sons and his brothers, Tim, Jerry,
and John and his family. Mary had an opportunity to show everyone
her newest grandchild, Brooke, whose parents are Sam and Sue Butler.
Kelsey Debettencourt, a fifth grader at the Oak Bluffs School, will
celebrate her birthday tomorrow with a trip off-Island to Providence.
Joining Kelsey will be her Aunt (Paula Smith), Amy Billings, and
Amy's niece, Samantha Billings.
Congratulations to Cole Bilodeau, Oak Bluffs sixth grader, who was
the Oak Bluffs finalist for the Island Spelling Bee, sponsored by
the Martha's Vineyard Times. Cole also won the School Geography
Bee and took a written test, which qualified him for the State Geography
Bee on April 1.
If you have a child in grades K through 2 and are interested in
a Spanish summer immersion program, which will be held this July
and August, you may contact Rebecca Geary evenings at 696-9069.
The school is reminding everyone to be extremely cautious at the
intersection of Wing and Trade Winds roads, which is always very
busy at the start and end of school. But as there is now a new crossing
guard there, please take extra precautions.
We send extra special birthday smiles to Will Farrissey, who turned
14 on last Monday.
And a Happy Saint Patrick's Day to all who are Irish or wish they
were!
