I
came home the other day to the most glorious bouquet on my kitchen
counter! It was five little crocuses in a tiny glass - no stems, no
extra greenery - just the five little crocus flowers. And it was clear
from this classic appearance that they were picked by Amelia, my two-year-old
daughter! It was the best bouquet I've ever received!
The Edgartown Council on Aging's St. Patrick's Day Feast of corned
beef and cabbage was a success! Richard Krauss, David Rossi, and CARRIE
(emphasis intended) Welch served up a great meal for about 50 guests.
It sounds like the food was wonderful and everyone had a great time.
All of the nurseries looked wonderful this weekend, in celebration
of Palm Sunday. Donaroma's Nursery always looks so festive and bright
and the kids love to go by and see the giant bunny in the front yard.
Thanks for the joy your decorations bring.
With spring officially here, life seems to be picking up here on the
island. Weekends are busier, with lots of unfamiliar faces walking
around. Also, a lot of familiar faces seem to be returning after months
in warmer climates. Storefronts are starting to come to life and people
have begun their annual chores of cleaning and landscaping.
The most common theme I've heard, however, has been from all the parents
of young kids saying, Thank goodness we can finally get outside
and play!
My own kids have been enjoying the swing set and outside games all
week and the fresh air has been wonderful. It truly does seem like
spring is bringing with it a rebirth this year - for plants, animals,
and people alike! Smiles are bigger, people seem less stressed, and
laughter seems more common. As one parent remarked to me the other
day, Who would have thought that kids would actually get sick
of snow on Martha's Vineyard?
Landscape painter Nancy Furino, who lives in Edgartown, will give
an oil painting demonstration at the Chilmark library on Wednesday,
March 30, from 5 to 7 pm. She will work on a canvas and share the
process with the audience, and there will be a chance to ask questions
as she paints. I am familiar with Nancy's work, as my mother painted
with her on occasion, and this is a wonderful opportunity to watch
a fabulous artist at work and learn some tricks of the trade. Everyone
is welcome; there is no charge.
Happy Easter, everyone. Enjoy the weather and enjoy the time you may
be spending with your family in friends. Don't forget to share your
news. Have a great week. |
