EDGARTOWN
April 28, 2005

I hope everyone
had an enjoyable spring vacation. For the most part, the weather was
nice around here, and every day it seems that there is more and more
to do. The weekends are certainly getting busier and there are lots
of people strolling around town, window shopping and visiting our
sleepy little village.
The annual spring Minnesingers concert will be next weekend. The shows
are on Saturday, April 30 at 8 pm and Sunday, May 1, 3 pm. The Sunday
show is a family ticket price of $25 for 4 people. The tickets for
Saturday are $10 for adults and $5 for seniors and students. I'm sure
it will be a great time.
Paul and Linda Condlin went to see their son James play in a tennis
match at Curry College on Saturday, April 16. James's old high school
tennis coach, Ned Fennessey, joined them and all three got to witness
James win both his singles and doubles matches. It was a special day
for James to have his high school coach and parents cheering him on.
I know that there have already been reported sightings of mayflowers
around the Island but I wanted to report that I found the first ones
in my yard on April 20. My mother and Howard Andrews had an annual
competition to see who was able to find mayflowers first, so on Wednesday,
I picked a couple, brought them into the house, put them in a small
glass on the piano, smelled their delightful fragrance, and thanked
Buzz and Howard for bringing them to me so early!
In case you haven't heard, the Edgartown Zoning Board of Appeals recently
denied approval for the Edgartown Library Expansion project, which
had passed at town meeting recently. Unless some changes can be made
quickly, this appears to have effectively ended the chance of an expanded
downtown library for at least four or five more years.
On a similar note regarding downtown Edgartown, the Edgartown Board
of Trade is back in full force. They have recently recreated the organization
and meet monthly to discuss ways to bring life back to Edgartown.
They have a number of committees working on different issues from
traffic to beautification to event planning. If you are an Edgartown
business owner and would like to be a part of organization, please
get in touch with Fred Mascolo, who is one of the driving forces behind
the group, or Christina Cook, who is part of the membership committee.
Finally, happy birthday to Meg Shirer, who celebrated on April 16
(or somewhere around there!). I forgot the flowers and chocolate.
I hope this will do instead!
Not much else to report this week, maybe because people have been
away. If you've got news to share, feel free to call or e-mail me.
Have a great week.
