Anything can
happen between today, Monday, and Thursday when the paper comes
out, but this morning is, actually, a lovely, long-awaited, real
spring day - gentle sunshine, birds rejoicing, squirrels and rabbits
playing their games among the daffodils and dandelions.
It's a day to inspire artists and poets. And to sign up for the
first in a series of Nancy Aronie's summer Writing From the Heart
workshops, starting Monday, May 9 through Thursday May 12, 9 am
to noon. Register right away by calling Nancy at 508-645-9085. The
workshops are held at Nancy's house in the West Meadow, an idyllic
place with sloping lawns and tall trees, an ideal setting for creating
sonnets or memoirs.
Friends of Laura Miller, who died last fall, are invited to a commemorative
gathering at the Howes House on Saturday, May 7 at 2 pm. A light
luncheon will be served. Laura lived in Chilmark for many years
and was an avid reader, a regular at the library, and a member of
the women's hospital auxiliary. She was also a lawyer. She moved
to Sarasota several years ago to be near her son, Jono.
You can take all the poisonous stuff in the shed/barn/garage to
the household hazardous waste site at the Edgartown wastewater facility
on Saturday, May 21 from 9 am to noon.
Pat Harrison of Vineyard Haute Cuisine will discuss and prepare
hors d'oeuvres at the library next Wednesday, May 11, 5:30 to 6:30
pm. The menu will include her special crab cakes and pot stickers,
and tastes will be offered. The Wednesday evening programs are sponsored
by the Friends of the Library.
Seeds, chickens, and flowers continue to be the subject of the library's
after-school program for children ages five and up, from 3:30 to
4:30 pm. Be ready for something different next Wednesday, May 11
when some real, live chickens will visit, courtesy of Olivier Dunrea,
who loves chickens, paints them and has even written a story about
them, The Painter Who Loves Chickens. The following
Wednesday the children will paint chickens. A bonanza for animal
lovers!
