Getting noticed is easy
When you know what to do, getting publicity
for your event is easy. Let The Times show you how.
Are you in charge of publicity for your non-profit organization? Is
your club planning an event for July, but you are worried it might
get lost in the summer crush? Did you miss a club meeting only to
discover you were named press secretary? Does your group do wonderful
things but you don't know how to promote it?
Join us for a Getting Noticed seminar on Thursday, May
19, at 7 pm, here at The Times office on Beach Road in Vineyard Haven.
Anna Marie D'Addarie from The Times Calendar section will help you
with everything you need to know to get your event noticed. The hands-on
seminar will include: how to write a press release, what NOT to do,
deadlines, and a You be the editor game (with prizes)
to test what you have learned.
Take advantage of this opportunity and get noticed. You owe it to
your organization and to our community. We want to know what's going
on.
Rhodie's blooming
Join the folks at Polly Hill Arboretum
for a rhododendron and azaleas guided walk with the experts Tim Boland,
Don Brown, and Jeanie Gillis. The knowledgeable trio will answer your
questions and fill you in on these blooming beauties.
To register or for more information, call 508-693-9426. The cost is
$36 or $30 for arboretum members and the program runs from 9 am to
noon this Saturday.
Museum and garden trip
The Tisbury Travel Club is planning
a trip to the Heritage Museum and Gardens in Sandwich on Wednesday,
June 1. The Heritage is a premier showcase that celebrates the American
spirit with exhibits of antique automobiles, a 1912 hand-carved carousel,
Revolutionary and Civil War memorabilia, folk art and more than 1,000
varieties of trees, shrubs and flowers. The famous Dexter rhododendrons
should be in bloom.
An added special exhibit, on loan from the Mystic Seaport Museum,
features Sea Dogs: Great Tales of the Sea.
The trip cost $20 and includes the bus and admission. Call 508-696-4205
and reserve your place for this wonderful day off the Island.
Farmers and produce wanted
The West Tisbury Farmers Market is looking for
farmers who would like to sell their Island-grown produce. In keeping
with the tradition of the market, small family farms are encouraged
to apply.
For more information, call Victoria at 508-693-0761. The season opens
Saturday, June 11 and Wednesday, June 22. |
