Callie Jackson (shown here, right) received an award for raising $600 in last year’s Hop-A-Thon for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). Callie’s award was presented on May 9 by Nikke Grimes (right) the MDA program coordinator and coach Kevin Nichols (right).

Callie is a third grader at the Tisbury School. Last year, 150 Tisbury students raised more than $2,400 for the association. This year’s Hop-A-Thon will take place on May 23.

In the gardening magazine “People, Places, and Plants” fifteen of the 50 Most Influential Gardeners in the Northeast are from Massachusetts. Included among the honorees is our own Polly Hill of the Polly Hill Arboretum in West Tisbury.

The magazine said the nomination process took more than a year and they considered thousands of individuals

Bishop Stang High School has placed Chantal Gomes of West Tisbury on the President’s List. This honor is for students who achieve a grade of 90 or above in all courses.

Shivonne Schofield of Edgartown is pictured here with actor, writer, and producer John Ratzenberger. Mr. Ratzenberger visited Joslin Diabetes Center where he met Shivonne. He was at the Boston center to promote his Newport Under the Stars charity event, which raises money for diabetes research and care. el Cassiani of Edgartown School, Emma Forbes of Oak Bluffs School, Alex Bilzerian of Tisbury School.

Each winner receives a $100 United States Savings Bond as well as having their artwork displayed on the cover of the telephone directory.

Mitchell Benway of Vineyard Haven was part of a color guard detail appearing at the grand ballroom of New York's Hilton Hotel to honor Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Cadet Benway is a senior at New York Military Academy. He is an academy student of distinction, a member of the National Honor Society, and received the Coaches Award by the football coaches this past winter.

Falmouth Academy has placed the following students on the Headmaster's List for the second trimester of the 2004-2005 academic year.

Sam Amazeen of Oak Bluffs, Elin Nelson, Clea Baumhofer, and Lily Cronig of West Tisbury, Taza Vercruysse of Aquinnah, and Lagan Trieschmann of Vineyard Haven.

Clea Baumhofer of West Tisbury won first place in the jewelry category at the Small Independent Schools Art League show. The juried show was hosted by Carroll School in Lincoln and 15 schools submitted hundreds of works of art.
