Visions bright and sunny

Garnishing the walls at Dragonfly Gallery are the striking still lifes and botanical collage, the work of Julie Y. Baker Albright and Peggy Turner Zablotny, respectively. This Saturday, the gallery hosts a reception for artists between 4 and 7 pm. The show continues through July 10. Don’t miss it!

Dragonfly Gallery is at 91 Dukes County Avenue. For more info, call 508-693-8877.

London’s Japanese Art

Life-like fish impressions, or gyotaku, the work of Steve London, pair with the popular photographs of John Charbonneau this weekend at Cousen Rose Gallery. A reception with music by Peter MacLean will be held on Saturday, July 2, from 7 to 9 pm.

Stop by 71 Circuit Avenue, Oak Bluffs through July 8 to view this cool fish/photo combo. 508-693-6656.

Art Blast

Art like you haven’t seen it will surprise you at Old Sculpin Gallery this Sunday. A diverse collection and an unusual installation will no doubt be the focus of attention and conversation at the artists’ reception from 6 to 8 pm.

Everything from stone carvings, abstract paintings, and collage to monotypes, portraits, and digital works will be featured. And both established and emerging Island artists are represented: Joan Newland, Sheila Hoerle, Ben Scott, Ben Cabot, Marston Clough, and Virginia Besse.

Mark your calendars. The show runs through July 8. Old Sculpin is on Dock Street in Edgartown. 508-627-4881.

Tell Me About Freedom

Artists Traeger di Pietro, JB Lamont, Jon Zindel, and Louisa Gould explore the meaning of freedom through their work, featured at Louisa Gould Gallery through July 14. Visit this Friday from 5 to 8 pm to meet the artists and note their expressions of creative liberty.

The gallery is located on 13 Beach Street Extension in Vineyard Haven. For more info, call 508-693-7373.

Directions in Time

Ever wonder where you’re going? Island artist Cindy Kane explores her world by combining a love of maps with her role in child rearing. Her work will be on view at Carol Craven Gallery this weekend, in addition to the sculptures of Benjamin Cabot. A reception will be held on Saturday, July 2, from 5 to 7 pm, and the artists’ work will be featured through July 15.

Carol Craven Gallery is located at 29 Breakdown Lane, off Holmes Hole Road in Vineyard Haven. 508-693-3535.

Shop Talk

The multi-talented John Holladay will be at Shaw Cramer Gallery on Friday evening to discuss painting in grisaille watercolor and acrylic on canvas. As a painter, art teacher, and graphic illustrator, he will share techniques and inspirations. His talk is the first in a series featuring various gallery artists, but you needn’t be an artist to attend. Stop by at 6:30 pm.
