First of all, apologies for misinforming readers about the dump
hours in last weeks column. The correct hours are Wednesdays
8 am to 5 pm and Sundays 1 to 5 pm.
We have just about everything we need right in town to keep us busy
and amused all summer. No need to fight the crowds down-Island.
The Yard is showing movies, starting tonight, Thursday, June 30,
with A Portrait of Bessie Schonberg at 7:30 pm. Admission
is $8; $6 for students and seniors. And next Thursday, July 7, The
Cost of Living will be shown, also at 7:30 pm.
Rez Williams will open a show of new paintings at the Stanley Murphy
Gallery, 24 South Road, on Saturday, July 2, with a reception from
57 pm. The gallery will be open daily from 16 pm during
July and August.
Nancy Furino will show new oil paintings at the library starting
Saturday, July 2 until July 14 during library hours.
The library evening lecture series will be held Wednesdays and Thursdays,
5:306:30 pm, during the summer. There is no admission charge.
Perry Mehrling, an economist and author, will read from and discuss
his book Fischer Black and the Revolutionary Idea of Finance
next Wednesday, July 6.
And next Thursday, July 7, poet Judith Herman will read selections
from her new book, Fishing Rites and Other Poems. You
dont have to be a poet to enjoy her wonderful poems, evocations
of daily life told with grace and humor. They cheer you up. At the
library, 5:306:30 pm.
And sign up at the library for the summer reading program, Going
Places at your Library, which begins on Saturday, July 2.
Participants get a log in which to record what they have read, and
coupons of appreciation from local merchants.
Bonnie and Bob George have returned from a grandchildren tour
four children, two daughters-in-law, and four grandchildren.
The visiting took them to Westport, Conn., New York City, Glenmore,
Penn., and Arlington, Va. The next visiting will be in August when
all the clan will gather in Chilmark.
Welcome to Kimberly Schlesinger, the new associate librarian, who
will soon know all the patrons names and favorite books.
