Upton Bell at the gavel
Featherstone culminates its week-long silent art auction with a gala
live auction on Sunday, July 17, beginning at 5 pm with wine, beer,
and canapés. The live auction begins at 6 pm with Upton Bell
presiding. Up for bid are paintings, sculptures, and photographs by
40 Island artists. Admission is $20 and proceeds benefit Featherstone
Center for the Arts. Join the fun at Barnes Road, just one quarter
mile north of the four-way stop in Oak Bluffs. 508-693-1850.
Vineyard scenes, Island photographer
Meet Island resident Kay Nelson and view her creative digital photography
in a variety of styles from impressionism to photorealism. The show
is called Vineyard Landscapes, Plants, and Animals. An
artists reception will be held on Sunday, July 17, from 5 to
7 pm at Forget Me Not Antiques, 496 State Road, West Tisbury. 508-693-1788.
Four at three from six to nine
Satisfy a weeks worth of art craving in one night. Several galleries
have combined efforts to present the Edgartown Gallery Stroll on Thursday,
July 14. All receptions are from 6 to 9 pm at the following galleries:
Willoughby Fine Art Gallery at 12 North Water Street is showing An
Evening with the Learys a mother and daughter art exhibition.

Eisenhauer Gallery at 38 North Water Street presents Fiammas
Fantasy, a wry, whimsical series of individual portraits of
sheep and goats in surreal landscapes by artist Anthony Panzera. 508-627-7003.
Hammond Harkins Gallery on 31 North Summer Street presents A
Year on Island, paintings of Marthas Vineyard by artist

Two takes on the Vineyard
Judith Kinsman, watercolor artist, and John Breckenridge, photographer,
will show their views of the Island at Cousen Rose Gallery at 71 Circuit
Avenue in Oak Bluffs. The show runs through July 22 and an artists
reception will be held on Saturday, July 16, from 7 to 9 pm. 508-693-6656.
Young and seasoned
Young artist Adam Thompson displays his modernistic paintings for
the sixth year in a row at Dragonfly Gallery. Seasoned abstract artist
Don McKillop joins him with new works. The show runs through July
24. Meet the artists on Saturday, July 16, from 4 to 7 pm at 91 Dukes
County Avenue, Oak Bluffs. 508-693-8877.
Boats, boats, and more boats
Louisa Gould Gallery presents a visual voyage of tall ships, marine
vessels, fishing boats, and yachts of all sizes. The show includes
works by Louisa Gould, John Watson, Traeger di Pietro, and Rani Connor.
An artists reception will be held on Friday, July 15, from 5
to 8 pm the gallery. Its at 13 Beach Street Extension in Vineyard
Haven. The show runs through July 29. 508-693-7373.
Artist talk
Wendy Weldon, known for her compositional style and use of color depth
will discuss her acrylic painting techniques and inspirations for
work, which is currently exhibited at Shaw Cramer Gallery. The event
is Friday, July 15, at 6:30 pm and part of Shaw Cramers Artist
Talks, a series that features Island artists. All are invited.
The gallery is on the second floor at 56 Main Street in Vineyard Haven.

Jewels from the sea
See what treasures the sea has to offer. Beginning on Friday, July
15, Optional Art will present exotic South Sea and Akoya pearls, as
well as graduated colored sapphires in fluid 18-karat gold contemporary
designs all by Hikari. The treasures will be at the 7 Winter
Street shop in Edgartown from 10 am to 9 pm through July 17. 508-627-5373.
Dancing figures
Jules Feiffer creates a world of dance with his colorful and vibrant
watercolors featuring the whirling pundit from his famous comic strip
and other almost recognizable figures. Derek Buckner displays his
landscapes and cityscapes inspired by his homes in Brooklyn and the
Island and trips to Mexico and Italy. The opening reception is Sunday,
July 17, from 5 to 7 pm at Carol Craven Gallery, 29 Breakdown Lane,
off Holmes Hole Road in Vineyard Haven. The show is featured through

Group show
Marthas Vineyard Art Association (MVAA) members Louisa Gould,
Victor Pisini, Donna Blackburn, Pat Rodgers, and Libby Walbridge exhibit
their photography, oils, pastels, and watercolors in a group show.
The reception is Sunday, July 17, from 6 to 8 pm at Old Sculpin Gallery,
home of MVAA. The gallery, on Dock Street in Edgartown, hosts the

Flora and fauna pics at Featherstone
Featherstone will hold a reception on Tuesday, July 19, from 4 to
6 pm for their exhibit of the distinctive flora and fauna photographs
of Jeanne Campbell. The show runs through July 28. Featherstone Center
for the Arts is on Barnes Road, one quarter mile north of the four-way
