If you found history confusing, this is for you. If you revel in the
thoughts of the people who made our history, this is for you. The
American Revolution in song and story will be presented by Bill
Schustik on Monday at 2 pm at the Tisbury Senior Center. Bill is an
old-fashioned American troubadour familiar to Island audiences. He
will use broadsides, folk songs, letters, and folk tales to weave
a captivating tapestry of our founding fathers as they saw themselves.
Bill doesn't just sing. He performs, acts, and cajoles the audience
into actively going back in time with him to experience the naive
optimism that ultimately confounded and defeated the British Army
during the American Revolution.
This history is all good fun. The free program is hosted by the Tisbury
Council on Aging and the Martha's Vineyard Historical Society. All
ages are welcome.
The Tisbury Travel Club is planning a trip to Plimoth Plantation on
September 28. If you want to take this opportunity to see the village
and exhibits, as well as Plymouth Rock and the Mayflower, call 508-696-4205
now to reserve your place.
Marty Nadler is performing at the Mansion House every Wednesday evening
through August. The show begins about 8 pm, he says. Very Vineyard
II is a light-hearted comical look at the Island. Marty says,
It's must see if you're thinking of moving here, or thinking
of leaving here, or if you've lived here so long you stopped thinking!
I would say that chuckles are guaranteed.
Emily Wetherall tells us that Marge Anderson has moved from the Vineyard
to Tyler, Texas, to be near her family. She would love to hear from
her friends. Her address is Marjorie Anderson, Garden Estates Apt.
135, 2055 Grande Blvd., Tyler TX 75703. Marge was a member of the
Tisbury Finance and Advisory Committee for many years. She also served
on the Capital Program Committee for the Town of Tisbury.
Congratulations to Della Hardman! Tomorrow has been proclaimed Della
Hardman Day by the selectmen in Oak Bluffs. Those of us who know her
are convinced this should be an Island-wide proclamation.
Belated birthday greetings go to Michele Jones. She celebrated last
Thursday.
Big bunches of birthday balloon wishes go out today to Sydney Pigott.
Tomorrow wish the best to Judy Davey and Ed Colligan. Happy birthday
to Michael Bulkin and Pam Cassel. They will celebrate next Tuesday.
Heard on Main Street: I do whatever my Rice Krispies tell me
to do.
