Wonders of Murano

Italy’s island of Murano isn’t the only place to see fascinating glasswork and exquisite designs and sculptures. Martha’s Vineyard Glassworks has many treasures to behold and this week will host internationally acclaimed Dino Rosin and his "Works in Calcedonia." His glass sculptures, which will be on view through Aug. 20, are known for their striking striations of color and unpredictable beauty, unique to his studio in (yes) Murano. Water Street in Edgartown. 508-627-7003.

If you absolutely have to miss this one, catch additional previews on Aug. 12, 19, and 26. 508-696-8826.

Rocky mountain rocks

A South Sea pearl perches in the crook of a squarish ring making a pendant. Snakes of white and yellow gold are interrupted by intertwining rings of same, creating a bracelet. Tiny diamond shapes hang in and from an 18-karat white gold frame, forming chandelier earrings. And everywhere, pave diamonds peek out from unexpected places. These are just a sample of the jewelry produced by renowned Colorado designer Scott Keating, which will be shown by Optional Art. Meet the designer and view his work beginning on Friday, Aug. 5, from 10 am to 5:30 pm and continuing through Aug. 7. 508-627-5373.
