The legendary
Temptations |
If you grew up
in the 60s or 70s, you probably listened to such smash
hits as My Girl, Since I Lost My Baby, Aint
Too Proud to Beg, The Way You Do the Things You Do,
and Papa Was a Rolling Stone on your portable record player.
You can probably still sing every word of the pulsing lyrics, and
youll get your chance to do just that on Friday, August 19,
at the Hot Tin Roof when the legendary Motown sensations The Temptations
take to the stage for a Vineyard Nursing Association (VNA) benefit
performance, their first ever on the Island.
The Temps first recorded in 1961 but didnt hit the jackpot until
1964 with The Way You Do the Things You Do, written and
produced by Smokey Robinson. They became the most consistently commercially
successful and critically acclaimed male vocal group of their time.
Known for their smooth voices and even smoother moves on stage, The
Temptations remain true to their vocal traditions despite changes
in personnel over the years. The current lineup includes original
member Otis Williams, Terry Weeks, G.C. Cameron (former front man
for The Spinners), Joe Herndon, and Ron Tyson. Rich in history but
constantly reinventing themselves, The Temps are still world-renowned
for their captivating, dynamic performances.
According to Barbara Welsh, VNA Director of Development and Communications,
there are a variety of ticket options available for the evening, including
reserved booth, table, and bar seats, as well as general admission.
The VNA, established in 1984, is a non-profit home health care provider
whose mission is to provide compassionate, high quality, and state-of-the-art
care for patients and families with acute, chronic, or advanced illnesses.
Each year, the agency averages more than $100,000 in unreimbursed
costs for care to patients on the Island. Proceeds from the concert
will help defray those deficits. Ms. Welsh said she hopes that the
benefit performance will bring in $40,000 in much-needed funds and
reports that ticket sales are brisk.
Cory Cabral, General Manager of The Hot Tin Roof, said, Its
an honor to have The Temptations on the Island. They are the jewel
in the crown for the summer and were thrilled to host a benefit
for a great cause.
The Temptations, Friday, August 19, Hot Tin Roof, Airport Road, Edgartown.
Tickets $125 to $350, partially tax-deductible. Call 508-693-6184
