Unforgettable pottery at Forget Me Not

Scott Campbell takes his clay right from Vineyard earth and creates vessels that are functional and beautiful. His show, “Vineyard Pottery,” will start with a reception on Sunday, August 21, from 5 to 7 pm, at Forget Me Not Antiques, 496 State Road in West Tisbury. 508-693-1788.

Reflections of your summer

Glenn Tunstull captures Vineyard summers in oils and watercolors. The beach scenes reflect just that awe and serenity you enjoyed this morning. Take one home from Cousen Rose Gallery on 71 Upper Circuit Avenue in Oak Bluffs. The show starts with a reception on Saturday, August 20, from 7 to 9 pm and continues through August 26. 508-693-6656.

Scapes at Dragonfly

Visit the painted vistas of Elizabeth Lockhart Taft and Michele Dangelo at Dragonfly Gallery, 91 Dukes County Avenue in Oak Bluffs. The show began on Wednesday, August 17, but the reception will be held on Saturday, August 20, from 4 to 7 pm. The show runs through August 28. 508-693-8877.

Wine soirée at Ott Gallery

Lanny McDowell presents another wine soirée and sneak preview of his paintings. Drop in at Ott Gallery on Friday, August 19, between 4 and 6 pm at 1000 State Road (near the center of West Tisbury). There’s one more on August 26. 508-696-8826.

Decker in the alley

Hastings in the alley showcases the canvases of Max Decker, beginning with a reception on Saturday, August 20, from 6 to 8 pm. The show also features Shannon Rynd-Ray and Enos Ray, and runs through August 26. hastings in the alley is in Harbor Alley (behind Tsunami) in Oak Bluffs. 508-693-7444.

A goddess’s work is never done

Nathan Mayhew Seminars needs a new roof and Goddess Way Gallery is helping. They’re sponsoring an art and jewelry show on Saturday, August 20, from 7 to 9 pm at Nathan Mayhew House, on N. William Street in Vineyard Haven.

Meanwhile, back at the gallery (13 Beach Street Extension in Vineyard Haven), a reception will be held for artist Simone Rainaud on Sunday, August 21, from 4 to 7 pm, and an exhibition of works by English language learners summer camp students will kick off with a reception on Friday, August 19, from 5 to 7 pm. 508-696-6433.

Whimsical animals art show

Aramara Gallery continues its exhibition of art by the Huichol people of Mexico with a collection of beaded animals, beginning on Sunday, August 21 and running through August 26. Aramara Gallery is located at 505 State Road in West Tisbury (near up-Island Cronig’s). 508-693-2196.

"Art & Soul"

Jazz and art combine for a special event at Featherstone. On Sunday, August 21 the evening begins with a reception at 6 pm, celebrating the paintings of Vineyard African American artists from the past and present. At 8 pm, guests will adjourn to an outdoor tent to enjoy the musical stylings of Stan Strickland, Shawnn Monteiro, Tim Ingles, Alvin Terry, Sa Davis and Frank Wilkins. Tickets are $25 and available at C’est La Vie, 51 Circuit Avenue in Oak Bluffs, or at Featherstone Center for the Arts on Barnes Road, one-quarter mile north of the four ways stop in Oak Bluffs. When is a vase not a vase?

When it’s an altered glass creation by Sidney Hutter. As opposed to their usual collection of blown and slumped glass, Martha’s Vineyard Glassworks presents non-functional vessels and sculptures by Sidney Hutter who combines sheets of plate glass in light defining works. The exhibit opens with a reception on Sunday, August 21, from 5 to 7 pm, and runs through Sept. 3. Martha’s Vineyard Glassworks is at 683 State Road in West Tisbury. 508-693-6026.

Pics, pastels, and more at Old Sculpin

Old Sculpin Gallery continues an artist intensive season with color photographs by Nancy Noble Gardner, oils and pastels by Gail Rodney, acrylics, watercolors and monoprints by Sharon Rosenfeld Scott and “Island Rhythms” by Sara Barnes. It all begins on Saturday, August 20, with a reception on Sunday, August 21, from 6 to 8 pm. The show runs through August 26. Old Sculpin Gallery in on Dock Street in Edgartown. 508-627-4881.

Representing their own work are 22 Island artists who invite you to the first annual Vineyard Fine Art Show held at the Grange Hall in West Tisbury. A reception will be held Monday, August 22, from 5 to 8 pm. The show continues on Tuesday, August 23, from 10 am to 5 pm. Platinum redefined

Award winning jewelry designer Michael Bondanza’s works in platinum and gold are innovative and complex. Since the 1970s when his desire to create a Western-style belt buckle drove him to teach himself the art of creating jewelry, his work has appeared in some of New York’s toniest stores.
