Midsummer Retrograde
August 11 , 2005

By Arlan Wise

There’s a lot of buzz on astrological lists about the discovery of a tenth planet. No one is sure how to interpret its meaning as we are still gathering data on it. It is bigger than Pluto and its orbit around the sun takes twice as long, 560 years. The planet is called 2003UB313 and is nicknamed "Xena,” after the TV show heroine.

It now sits in the constellation of Cetus the Whale. The last time it occupied that placement was in 1445. That was the year when the texts of Taoism were published and the Tao entered the collective consciousness. It was the year that Gutenberg developed the printing press, and it was the height of the Inca Empire under Montezuma.

What a retrograde Mercury surprise, although the discovery occurred in 2003,

Mercury will turn direct late at night on the 15 of August. His next retrograde period will be November 15–December 3, 2005.

Thursday, August 11
Moon VC Libra, enters Scorpio 8:35 am. You’ll tend to take everything personally today. Try not to judge anyone, anything, or yourself. Give someone a second chance to reestablish trust. Work off the emotions in the garden. Remember, it’s only four more days until Mercury is direct.

Friday, August 12
Moon in Scorpio. Once again, try not to take everything you hear too personally. Use your intuition, not your emotions, to interpret the words. It’s a prime day for planting. Spend time amidst greenery. Finish up any still undone retrograde Mercury projects. Make a list of what to do next week when Mercury is direct.

Saturday, August 13
Moon in Scorpio, VC from 8:06 am until 3:47 pm when it enters Sagittarius. Give yourself a break and hang out by, in, or on the water for most of the day. You may need to defend some realizations you’ve recently made. Avoid arguments. It’s a good day to write your thoughts down or compose songs.

Sunday, August 14
Moon in Sagittarius. There’s fiery energy today as the sun dances with Pluto. You can slide along your path and make a big leap forward. It is not a day to rest; make use of this unique energy that will help you bring your feelings into form. Experiment and embrace the unknown.

Monday, August 15
Moon in Sagittarius, VC from 4:43 pm until 7:13 pm when it enters Capricorn. It’s day for stating your vision, seeing the big picture, making a 5-year plan. Mercury will not go direct until 11:51 pm; you’re still on hold all day. Find the time for some outdoor exercise. Engage in friendly competition.

Tuesday, August 16
Moon in Capricorn, VC 9:02 pm. Breath a big sigh of relief and get to work. You should be able to handle a double-size workload today. Make executive decisions and do the deals you’ve been waiting to do. Venus enters her own sign of Libra tonight; she gives gentleness and beauty to the atmosphere.

Wednesday, August 17
Moon VC Capricorn, enters Aquarius 7:39 pm. The VC moon slows you down to a crawl again. It’s best to work on and finish up what you started yesterday. You can do some visionary thinking and planning today. Contemplate your future with positive thoughts.

Thursday, August 18
Moon in Aquarius. Contribute to the community. Get involved with a fundraiser, or other event that benefits the community. Help those who need help. Feed your mind in some way; attend a lecture or play. You can work with ease today. Amuse yourself finding new information on the Internet.

Friday, August 19
Moon in Aquarius, VC 1:53 pm until 6:52 pm when it enters Pisces. Start your weekend after lunch if you can. Wrap up the week’s work if you can’t. You need to stop and enjoy the summer as it’s whooshing by. Have a party under tonight’s full moon.

Saturday, August 20
Moon in Pisces. The day is full of mysteries and surprises. Immerse yourself in the water, sit and listen to its rhythms and the songs it makes. Meditate outdoors. Your romance can gel into something more permanent, so pay attention to the undercurrents and unspoken messages.

Sunday, August 21
Moon VC Pisces, enters Aries 7:01 pm. A VC Sunday is a day to rest. Forget your plans and drift with the day. Do what you feel like doing. Have a lazy Sunday afternoon in the hammock. Save the work you have to do for tonight when you’ll have more energy.

Monday, August 22
Moon in Aries. The sun enters Virgo at 8:46 pm. This is the last day for months when there will be this great amount of fire energy available. Use the confidence it gives to sell yourself; send out proposals, applications, resumes, manuscripts, and work to be juried. You will feel a bit of tension let go tonight as the sun leaves the sign Saturn now occupies.

Tuesday, August 23
Moon VC Aries, enters Taurus 9:58 pm. Virgo sun will have you spending the day cleaning up after the summer’s excesses. You need to work alone and take care of your own stuff. Clean out and discard what you don’t need. Recycle.

Wednesday, August 24
Moon in Taurus. You can slow down and appreciate the finer things in life now. Sensual Taurus moon tells you to pay attention to the joys of the senses. Get a massage, loll in the sun, smell the flowers. Go out for a great gourmet meal tonight.

Thursday, August 25
Moon VC Taurus. Whatever it is that gave you pleasure yesterday is worth repeating today. This VC moon is giving you a chance to pamper your body. Consider what you look like and what you feel like and how you would like to improve that state. Plant and transplant: it’s a fertile moon.
