Lush landscapes at
Eisenhauer
New York painter Connie Fiedler captures her love for the Island in oils. Her minimalist style is loose, realistic and textured and can be seen at Eisenhauer Gallery. Summer retrospective
Louisa Gould Gallery celebrates the end of summer with a group show that includes photography, paintings, and mixed media. The reception is Friday, Sept. 2, from 5 to 8 pm at Louisa’s gallery at 13 Beach Street Extension in Vineyard Haven. The show runs through Oct. 7.

Sculpture for your own form
Nikki Feldbaum creates wearable sculpture: an interesting mix of gold wire, pearls, and semi-precious stones. See the work of this Sarasota, Florida jewelry artist this Friday from 10 am to 5:30 pm at Optional Art, 7 Winter Street in Edgartown. The show runs through August 28. 508-627-5373.
Two signings
Jill Nelson, author of “Finding Martha’s Vineyard,” a series of interviews with Islanders talking about how they came to be here, will do two book signings at Cousen Rose Gallery, 71 Upper Circuit Avenue in Oak Bluffs, on Saturday, August 27, and Sunday, Sept. 3, from 11 am to 1 pm. The gallery will also feature a retrospective of the season’s art through Sept. 17. 508-693-6656.
What’s new at Craven
John Neville’s new paintings, Harriet Shorr’s still lifes, and the “Vineyard Sculptures” of Stella Waitzken (1920–2003) will be featured at Carol Craven Gallery this weekend, beginning with a reception on Saturday, August 27, from 5 to 7 pm. The show will be on view through Sept. 9. 508-693-3535.
Reflections of nature’s moods
Anne Grandin uses organic shapes to connect earth, sky, and sea in her dramatic land and seascapes. View them this week, beginning with a reception on Saturday, August 27, from 6 to 8 pm, at hastings in the alley in Harbor Alley (behind Tsunami), Oak Bluffs. The show runs through Sept. 2.
The next show at hastings features Chantale Legare, a multi-media assemblage artist who combines images of architecture and human forms. It begins with a reception on Friday, Sept. 2, from 6 to 8 pm. 508-693-7444.
Last chance for wine and a sneak peak
Drop in at Ott Gallery on Friday, August 26, between 4 and 6 pm at 1000 State Road (near the center of West Tisbury). Lanny McDowell presents one last wine soirée and preview of his paintings before the one-day show with photographer Sam Low on Sept. 3. The show will be held at the West Tisbury Grange from 1 to 8 pm. The reception is at 4 pm. 508-696-8826.
Yarn paintings
Renowned Huichol artist Jose Benitez Sanchez brings his beeswax and fiber paintings to Aramara, starting with a reception on Sunday, August 28, from noon to 5 pm. The gallery is on 505 State Road in West Tisbury (near up-Island Cronig’s). The show ends Sept. 2. 508-693-2196.
Season’s end
Old Sculpin sees out the season with two shows. On Saturday, August 27, “Under the Surface” features photographs by Benjamin McCormick. The show, which also includes the ongoing exhibits of Gail Rodney and Sara Barnes, runs through Sept. 2, with a reception on Sunday, August 28, from 6 to 8 pm.
The second show, from Sept. 3 through 9, features the watercolors of Doug Peckham and the illustrations and watercolors of Renee O’Sullivan, as well as the continuing show of Benjamin McCormick. The reception is on Sunday, Sept. 4, from 6 to 8 pm. Old Sculpin Gallery is on Dock Street in Edgartown. 508-627-4881.
One giant art bash
Missed the summer’s art season? Get a giant dose in one venue. The Vineyard Artisans Labor Day Festival will be held on Saturday, Sept. 3 and Sunday, Sept. 4, from 10 am to 5 pm at the Agricultural Hall on Panhandle Road, West Tisbury. Fine art and crafts from Island artisans will fill the hall and spill out into the field. Admission and parking are free. 508-693-8989.
