Theater: "For the clergyman is ready to unite the happy pair"

August 25, 2005

The "HMS Pinafore" finale brings the entire cast onto the Katharine Cornell Theatre stage.

Abigail Southard (left), Kris Hauck, and Jonathan Ryan sing “Oh joy, oh rapture unforeseen!” in the Island Theatre Workshop’s production of “HMS Pinafore.”

When Gilbert and Sullivan collaborated for the fourth time they produced “HMS Pinafore” or “The Lass That Loved a Sailor.” It was the pair’s first hit, and remains one of the genre’s favorites. Now Island Theatre Workshop puts its own spin on this operetta classic, which opened on August 20 at the Katharine Cornell Theatre in Vineyard Haven.

“HMS Pinafore” continues August 25, 27, 28, and 29, at 8 pm, also a matinee on Sunday, August 28, at 2 pm. Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for seniors and students. Call 508-693-5290.
