Laughter was the order of the day last Sunday when National Public Radio (NPR) set up shop on the Vineyard Playhouse stage to tape four episodes of “Says You!”
Who knew words could be so funny? Fans of the weekly radio show turned out in large numbers to fill the playhouse to capacity and cheer on the two teams who battled it out for the fun of it.
Correct definitions for not-so-common words gain the team points. The banter among the panelists and between the two teams was peppered with puns, innuendos, and gentle jabs.
Host Richard Sher tried to maintain some order, but he knows the spontaneous outbursts make the show, so he let the panelist have free rein and the laughs flew. When a game went on a little too long he said to the audience, “You’ll be amazed how short this will be when you hear it on the radio.”
The live audience couldn’t get enough and the radio audience has made this show a hit. It’s easy to hear why.
“Says You!” can be heard on WGBH Boston 89.7 FM, Saturday, 8–9 pm; and WCAI Woods Hole 90.1 FM, Sunday, 1–1:30 pm. For more information, visit www.wgbh.org/radio/saysyou.
