Karen MacKay
A memorial service for Karen MacKay, who died on August 13, will be held on Saturday, Sept. 24, at 5 pm, at the Old Parsonage Bed and Breakfast, State Road, West Tisbury, just down the hill from AlleyÅhs General Store. The Rev. Tom Roan will officiate. All are welcome.
Patricia Whalen
Patricia Connolly Whalen of Nashua died Sept. 1 at the Greenbriar Nursing Home in Nashua, N.H., after a short illness. She was 81.
Patricia was the wife of T. Harrison Whalen, with whom she shared 55 years of marriage. For 46 of those years the couple lived in Nashua.
Patricia was born in Springfield on Oct. 11, 1923, the daughter of Patrick A. and Helen M. (Moore) Connolly. She graduated from Cathedral High School in Springfield and worked for a number of years for the New England Telephone Company in Springfield.
Patricia was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Parish. She was greatly loved and will be dearly missed by all who knew her as a gracious, fun-loving, and deeply caring friend, wife, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her husband; her three children and their spouses, Maureen E. Whalen and Peter Hunt of Arlington, David and Sharon Whalen of Vineyard Haven, and Stephen and Lisa Whalen of Franklin; and seven grandchildren, Devinne, Eliza, Kyra, Charlie, Carly, Olivia, and Jack. She was predeceased by her three brothers, Edward, John, and Robert Connolly, all of Springfield.
A funeral Mass was held on Sept. 3 at the Immaculate Conception Church, Nashua, and interment in Oak Grove Cemetery in Oak Bluffs on Sept. 6.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to either the Vermont or New Hampshire AlzheimerÅhs Association, 10 Ferry Street, Suite 427 B, Concord, NH 03301.

Martha L. Russcol
Martha Lillian Russcol, the girl with the blue velvet voice travels Ågbeyond, beyond, beyond the beyond.Åh Broadway singer, champion tennis player, social worker, comedian, devoted mother, grandmother, and friend. Lover of barbeque, beautiful flowers, and irreverent humor died peacefully Sept. 7 surrounded by family and friends at the MarthaÅfs Vineyard Hospital.
Martha resided at the home of her cherished daughter Toni Cohen and son-in-law Richard Cohen of West Tisbury. She is survived by her loving granddaughter, Amanda Cohen, also of West Tisbury.
The family would like to thank her caretakers Carol Searle and Ann Sylvester, the wonderful women at the Edgartown Senior Center, and the excellent nurses and doctors at the MarthaÅfs Vineyard Hospital. Her graveside service will be held on Thursday, Sept. 8 in the West Tisbury Cemetery, State Road, at 4 pm.
